Let Me Let Go Part 7
When C.J walked into her office the next morning, she
found a vase with a dozen red roses on her desk. She
was reading the card when she heard a knock on the
door.
“Are you busy?” Josh asked as he sat down on her
couch.
“No.” She replied as she put the card down.
“Things went well in Texas yesterday.”
“Yeah, no mention of how the President looks in
hats.”
“So, are the flowers from Toby?” Josh asked.
“Yeah.” C.J said with a smile.
“So why did he send you a dozen roses?”
“None of your business. Go away, Josh.”
“Okay.” Josh said as he left.

“Hey.” C.J said as she walked into Toby’s office.
“Do you know what I found on my desk when I came in
this morning?”
“What did you find?” Toby asked with a smile.
“A dozen red roses, with the sweetest card I have
ever read. Thank you.”
Toby motioned for her to walk over to his desk.
“What?” She said when she stood beside the desk.
“This...” Toby said as he stood up and kissed her
lightly.
“Don’t you have a briefing to do?” He asked.
“I’m going, I’m going.” She said. When she reached
the door, she turned and asked, “what time are you
picking me up tonight?”
“Seven.”
“Okay”

“I guess that you staff still likes me.” Danny said
as C.J walked back into her office that afternoon.
“Yeah”
“Nice flowers.”
“Thanks.”
“Are they from Toby?”
“Yeah, how did you know?”
“I heard rumors. Funny thing though, no one would
confirm them. I saw the two of you together last
night at the fundraiser.”
“I see.”
“May I ask you a question?”
“Yeah.” C.J said warily.
“Are you happy.”
“Yeah, I’m very happy.”
“Well, that’s all that matters. You know we were good
friends before everything. I’d hate to lose that
friendship.”
“Me too.”
“So I guess that we are friends again.” Danny said
as he extended his hand.
“I guess we are.” C.J replied as she shook his hand.

“C.J.” Toby called as he walked into her apartment.
“Just a minute. Hey you’re early.”
“And your surprised.”
“No.” She said as she walked out of her bedroom.
“Why is it that you look more beautiful to me
everyday?”
“Your flattering me again.” She said.
“I know.” He said as he kissed her.
“Shouldn’t we be going?” She asked.
“Why are you in such a hurry to go?”
“I think that you have something planned.”
“You do?”
“Yes, and you’re not even going to give me a hint are
you?”
“No.”
“Okay.” C.J said as she picked up her purse.

“Thank you.” C.J said as Toby held the chair for her
to sit down.
“Your welcome.”
“You know, I believe that I am enjoying this more
than I did last year.”
“That’s because you think I’m up to something.”
“And you’re not going to tell me what that something
is, are you?”
“Okay, I think that for arguments sake that if I am
up to something, then you should be patient.”
“I should be patient.”
“Yes.”
“I don’t really have a lot of patience.”
“I never said I was up to something.”
“Neither did you deny it.”
Toby glared at her as the waiter came to take their
order.
“You’re doing it again.” C.J said.
“Doing what?”
“The look.”
“You think that if you keep doing this that I’ll
admit that I'm up to something.”
“Yes, what are my chances.”
“Not good.”
“Okay.”

“You still haven’t told me what you’re up to.” C.J
said as Toby was unlocking the door to his apartment.
“I haven’t admitted that I’m up to something, yet.”
“You just admitted it. I was right. You said ‘I
haven’t admitted I’m up to something, yet.”
“Why don’t you sit down on the couch and close your
eyes, and I'll be back in a minute.”
“Okay”
“Keep your eyes shut!”
“Okay!!”
Toby walked into the bedroom and took a jewelry box
from the dresser. He opened it and looked at the
diamond and emerald ring inside of it. He worked up
his courage to ask C.J the question he was planning to
ask, and went back into the living room. He knelt in
front of her and took her left hand in his.
“You can open your eyes now.”
“Okay."
“The last year that you and I have been together has
been the happiest year of my life.” Toby said as he
took the jewelry box from his pocket.
“Oh, my God.” C.J whispered.
“I’ve decided that the only way I can be certain I
remain happy is to see that you stay in my life,
permanently. Claudia Jean Cregg will you do me the
honor of agreeing to become my wife?”
C.J could barely talk for the tears that were
falling. “YES, I’ll marry you.”
Toby slipped the ring on her finger. He then moved
to the couch beside her. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” C.J said, then she leaned closer
to him and kissed him. Toby put his arms around her,
pulled her closer to him, and returned the kiss.
