How Can I Not Love You Part 3

Danny followed C.J.'s mom through the halls of the hospital to ICU. When they
came to the door she turned to him. "Danny, she looks a lot worse than what
she really is, are you sure you'll be able to handle going in there?"
"I have to see to see her, you know that."
C.J.'s mom nodded. "Alright I'll leave you alone then." With that C.J.'s mom
began to walk away.
"Thanks Mrs. Cregg."
C.J.'s mom turned around. "Danny, please call me Marlena."
Danny nodded and as Marlena walked down the hall to the elevator he noticed
how much she reminded him of C.J. Once Marlena had gotten on the elevator,
he turned to the door to ICU. He held his breath as he opened the door and
walked in. He gasped as his eyes fell on C.J.
He walked closer to her so that he was standing right next to the bed. Her arms,
shoulders, and neck were badly bruised; there were small cuts going all over
her arms from the broken glass. He looked at her face, there were several small
cuts and bruises there too; there was a larger cut on her forehead and she had a
swollen lip. He was fighting as hard as he could to keep the tears back.
He pulled a chair over so that he could sit next to the bed, then he gentility took
her hand in his. Tears began to flow from his eyes, and for the first time since he
was a child Danny Concannon cried so hard he shook. He wished he could have
told her how much he loved her when he had the chance, or how much she
had really met to him. He wanted to erase all of the things he had said to her
during their argument last week. Now he prayed that she would live so that he
could tell her all of the things he hadn't been able to find the words to say.
When Marlena came in two hours later she saw Danny still sitting in the chair,
holding on to C.J.'s hand, asleep. Gentility she put her hand on his shoulder to
wake him. "Danny, Danny."
His eyes slowly opened and he turned toward her. "Danny, when was the last
time you ate?"
He thought for a second, "Yesterday."
"Go get something to eat, and get some air; I'd like to sit with my daughter for a
while, and you need out of this hospital for awhile." Danny opened his mouth to
protest, but Marlena cut him off, "I'll come and get you if anything changes."
Danny finally agreed , he stood up and squeezed C.J.'s hand one last time, then
mouthed the words 'I love you'.
An hour and a half later he had finished eating, or at least he had made an
attempt at eating but couldn't stomach the food. Now he was walking around
the hospital grounds. "Danny, Danny, Danny!"
He turned and saw Marlena running towards him. He instantly new something
had happened. "Danny, C.J. woke up, she's having a really hard time speaking,
but from what I can understand she's asking for you."
