Torn
by: Rhiannon

"Have you lost your mind?" Abbey roared. "Have you completely lost all
control of your thinking facilities?"

Jed stood, quietly wincing as his wife raged on in front of him.

"We cannot ... and I repeat, CANNOT haul that girl up in front of a room full
of reporters just because a couple of addled brained, so called reporters
decide to take it upon themselves to tell us what we should and should not
do!"

"Abbey-"

"NO!"

"Abbey-"

"NO, Jed, it's out of the question!"

"Abbey I-"

"Jed-"

"Dammit, Abigail!" Jed finally yelled back. "Listen to me! For once in your
life, shut the hell up and listen to me!"

Abbey clamped her mouth shut and stared at him, fuming in silence.

"Zoey and Stevie were ambushed today," Jed began.

"Where the hell were their agents, huh?" Abbey questioned.

"Abbey," Jed said, a warning tone creeping into his voice. He waited until
Abbey had closed her mouth before speaking again, "You know damn well that
once an idea like this begins, it spreads until someone puts out the fire.
We've got to do something now!"

"Fine!" Abbey exclaimed. "But do it without parading Stevie in front of the
press!"

"Abbey, this is the only way and you know it."

"No!" Abbey retorted. "I don't know anything of the kind! But I'll tell you
what I do know, I know that you and I won't be sleeping in the same room
tonight or any other night as long as you plan to go ahead with this stunt!"

"Abbey!" Jed yelled.

"NO!" Abbey yelled back, walking into the hallway. slamming the door behind
her. She walked through the hallway in a blind pace, never seeing the pajama
clad girl who had been listening at her door.
