"Hey, Leo."
"Hey, Leo."
"Hey, Leo."
Leo looked up from his computer screen, "What are you three doing in here?"
Brennan grinned at Leo as he sat down across the desk from him, "Dad told us
to come in here and bug you."
"So, here we are." Ariel added.
Leo pursed his lips and regarded each of them silently for a moment, "Fine."
He finally said. "But sit down and do not, unless you are told to do so, move
from that place. Understand?"
"Yes, sir."
"Yes, sir." Jason took a set at a table and grabbed a paper and pen.
"Yeah."
Leo raised an eyebrow, "Excuse me?"
"Yes, sir."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome." Ariel turned to Brennan and motioned for him to scoot his
chair into the middle of the office. She waited a moment for Brennan to get
situated and then, from her place on the couch, she threw the ball to him.
Brennan reached up and caught it easily. He stole a glance at Leo and then
tossed the ball back to his sister.
Leo flipped through the files on his desk, "Margaret!"
Ariel tossed the ball to Brennan, but overshot her mark this time. The moment
Margaret walked into the room, the baseball nailed her in her right eye, "OW!"
Every head in the room snapped to the doorway. Leo leapt from his chair,
"Margaret!" He gave Brennan a menacing look and the boy scrambled from the
chair. Leo guided Margaret to the recently vacated chair, "What happened?"
"Baseball." Margaret answered, holding her eye.
"I'll go get some ice." Jason jumped from his seat and hurried from the room.
"Ariel," Leo growled.
"It was an accident." Ariel protested.
Leo moved Margaret's hand away from her eye, "Move your hand, let me see."
Margaret gave a whimper when he touched her tender eye, "It hurts."
Leo traced her eye gently for a moment, "I know it hurts." He replied in a
soft voice.
Half a moment later, Jason skidded to a halt inside the room and handed the
cup of ice and a plastic baggy over to Leo, "Here."
Leo took both items, "Where did you find these so quickly?"
Jason gave him a sheepish look, "Mom said that with us around there should be
ice and baggies around everywhere."
Leo turned his attention back to Margaret, "That I do not doubt."
