No Place That Far

Jed walked with Abbey back to their hotel room. He looked down at her, "Did
you like dinner?"
Abbey nodded, "I did... I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying having dinner
without pranks or food fights."
Jed laughed, "I can imagine... And to think, you wanted to bring them with
us."
"Oh no," Abbey protested. "I never said anything about wanting to bring them
with us. What I said was, everyone in the White House would probably be safer
if we brought them with us."
"Well, we've been gone three days and nothing has happened yet."
Abbey sighed, "I know... I almost can't believe it."
"Leo is taking perfectly good care-"
"That reminds me, how did that happen?" Abbey looked at him as they walked
into their room.
"What?" Jed countered, closing the door.
"How did you manage to talk Leo into watching the kids?"
"With my superior skills at persuasion and-"
"In other words, Charlie wouldn't do it and then you blackmailed Leo into it."
"You betcha," Jed confirmed with a grin.
"That wasn't very nice."
Jed advanced on her until he had her backed up against the bed. He gave her a
little push and grinned as she landed softly on the bed, "I can be quite
ruthless when I want to be."
Abbey smiled as she reached up and pulled him down to her, "And when would
that be?"
Jed pulled her into a kiss before answering, "Well ... when I want to spend
time with my beautiful wife without three kids giving her an aneurysm..."
Abbey laughed as she unbuttoned the first button of his shirt, "And there
other times?"
"Yeah, when I want my beautiful wife to shut up and kiss me." Jed pressed his
lips to hers, kissing her passionately.
Abbey matched his passion with that of her own. She smiled when Jed pushed
her shirt off her shoulders. She began to work on his shirt when the phone
sitting next to the bed began to ring.
Abbey groaned as Jed reached a hand towards' the offending object. He fumbled
for the receiver, his lips never leaving hers. When he found it, he tore his
lips away from hers, "What?" After a moment, Jed tossed her the phone. "It's
for you."
Abbey groaned as she brought the receiver up to her ear, "Yes?"
"Mrs. Bartlet?" came the voice from the other end.
"Yes.
"This is Margaret."
Abbey sat straight up in bed, "What happened?"
"There's a problem."
"What is it? What did they do? Where are they? Where's Leo?" Abbey hurled out
a string of questions.
Margaret sighed, "That's part of the problem..."
