Chapter 12
Kelsey sat on the balcony outside the solarium in the Residence of the White House watching the sunrise. It had taken eight weeks of planning, but the day was finally here. Today she
would become Mrs. Toby Ziegler. Most of the plans had come together quickly once Abbey insisted that the wedding and reception be held at the White House.
"After all," she had told the couple, "it's where your romance began."
The wedding was going to be in the Mural Room while the reception would be in the State Dining Room. It was a small, intimate affair with only family and close friends attending.
After some coaxing on Toby's part, Justice Mendoza had agreed to perform the ceremony.
Last night during the rehearsal, Kelsey had met Toby's parents, Eli and Sarah Ziegler, and Toby's brother, David. Mrs. Ziegler had welcomed her new daughter-in-law with open arms, even
asking when she would finally become a grandmother. Kelsey had laughed while Toby had just rolled his eyes.
"How are you holding up?" Abbey asked as she stepped out onto the balcony to join Kelsey.
"A little nervous, but I'll be okay," replied Kelsey.
"It's going to be a beautiful day."
"I just wish mom was here to see it all."
Abbey sat down next to Kelsey.
"She is here. Maybe not in body but definitely in spirit."
"I know, but it's not the same."
They continued to sit on the balcony, watching the day dawn in silence.

"Correct me if Im wrong but arent you getting married in about three hours?" C.J. remarked as she walked into Tobys office.
"Youre right."
"Then what are you doing here?"
"I had some last minute details to take care of before I leave on vacation," explained Toby. "Besides, I want to make certain that the President actually has speeches containing punctuation
while I'm away."
"Nervous?"
.
"Me? Not a chance."
"Did you remember to pick up the rings?"
Toby looked up from his paperwork, a confused expression on his face.
"Rings?"
"Round bands of gold commonly used in weddings," C.J. joked.
"I forgot!" Toby declared.
He hurriedly began putting away his files and then reached for his jacket. As he put it on, he noticed that one side was heavier than the other was. He reached into the pocket and pulled out
a velvet ring box.
"Kelsey's ring," Toby said as he handed the box to his best woman.
"No, youre not at all nervous," C.J. smiled. "Lets go and get a drink."
"Right behind you," Toby answered.
