Chapter 11
A week later, Kelsey was finally able to return to work. She was practically skipping down the corridors of the West Wing as she headed towards her office that first day back.
"Hey, Saufl!" Danny called out.
"Hey yourself, Concannon!"
"Welcome back."
"Thanks."
"So, how are the wedding plans coming?"
"Off the record?" she teased.
"Of course."
"Things are coming together nicely. Although, I do need to talk to you."
"About?"
"Step into my office."
"Said the spider to the fly," joked Danny.
They walked to her office and Kelsey shut the door behind them. She motioned for Danny to have a seat.
"We've been friends for a long time," she began.
"Since you were old enough to chase after me."
"And even though we've had some disagreements along the way, you've always been there when I needed you."
"Well, someone had to sign up for the job," he remarked.
"Danny, would you stand up for me?"
"You want me to be your maid of honor?!"
"I'd prefer the term man of honor or even best man. But yes. Would you?"
"Of course I will. Just promise me I won't have to wear pink taffeta," Danny teased.
"Taffeta? Please, and pink is definitely not your color!"
While Kelsey and Danny were having their conversation, Toby was stumbling through one of his own with C.J.
"What do you want me to do, beg?" Toby declared.
"No. I just want you to get to the heart of the matter."
"C.J., you've been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. You were there when I married Andi and when I got divorced. You've been the person I turn to when I needed advice.
Our friendship means a great deal to me and I would be honored if you would be my best woman."
"I'm honored that you feel that way about me."
"Well, just don't go around telling everyone else. Okay?"
"Okay. And yes, I'll stand up for you."
"Thank you."
"No, thank you."
