Later that night Zoey and Stevie sat together, playing cards, as Jed and
Abbey sat off away from them.
"Have fun today?" Jed asked.
"Oh yes," Abbey replied. "We went everywhere today... We went to at least
twenty monuments, ten or fifteen out of the way stores, the library, and
three museums. We spent many hours in the museums. Jed, I'm exhausted."
Jed chuckled, "I bet you are," he turned his wife's body slightly and rubbed
her shoulders, "I spoke with my staff today. They're all going to spend time
with Stevie for the next day or so..."
"Even Toby?"
"Even Toby. Leo's going to talk to CJ about keeping Stevie's visit quiet... I
had arrangements made so she can go to the state dinner, by the way." Jed
said, quietly.
"Wonderful, Zoey and I will take her shopping for a dress." Abbey said, her
eyes focusing on a far off point. "You know, it might be a good idea to get
her a couple of dresses... I'm thinking about possibly taking her to the
Symphony."
"She might like that."
"I think she might ... and to the ballet." Abbey said, her voice taking on a
familiar tone. "I'll have Lily find out what theater shows are in DC at the
moment..."
"Abbey..."
"Oh, I just had a wonderful idea!" Abbey said.
"You're going to stop talking for five minutes?" Jed suggested.
Abbey went on, ignoring him, "Why don't we take her New York? She'd have a
wonderful time! What do you think?"
"Does it really matter what I say at this point?" Jed asked, more to himself.
"I think it would be great..." Abbey trailed off. She cocked her head and
then looked at her husband, as though a thought just occurred to her. "Were
you saying something a moment ago, Jed?"
Jed rolled his eyes, "As a matter of fact, I saying ... you're incredible."

"How long are you going to be in DC?" Zoey asked.
"I really don't know." Stevie said. "I mean, I guess I'll be here until your
parents get tired of me."
"Then you'll be here forever." Zoey said. "What do you think of the White
House so far?"
"To tell you the truth, I really don't know. I mean, I've done so much and
I've only been here two days... I'm having a blast, though."
"Good." Zoey told her. "Listen, I thought you and I could go to a movie or go
shopping here in the next couple of days, is that cool with you?"
"Yeah, that would be great." Stevie said. "Thank you."
"No problem." Zoey glanced over at her parents. "Come on, let's go to bed.
Mom and Dad are getting that look in their eyes."
"What look?"
"The one that says they're going to want to be alone in about three minutes."
Zoey stated. "And I know you're day is going to start very early, I think
you're going to spend the day with the senior staff."
Zoey and Stevie walked over to Jed and Abbey, "Hey you two, we're going to go
to bed now." Zoey bent down and gave her mom and her dad each a hug and kiss.
She went off toward the door as Stevie said goodnight.
"Goodnight Stevie." Abbey said.
"Goodnight Abbey... Mr. President."
"Goodnight Stevie." Jed replied.
Stevie started toward the door, she paused and turned to face the First
Couple. She bit her lip and contemplated something for a moment. Then she
gave both Jed and Abbey a hug.
"Goodnight, baby." Jed murmured into her hair.
Stevie straightened and then ran for the door and left out of the room with
Zoey.
